Pastor Wilbur Day

Pastor Wilbur L. Day was born July 2, 1949 in Springfield, Illinois.  He attended the Springfield Public Schools and graduated with honors from Feitshans High School in 1967.  That year he was the recipient of the Urban League Scholarship Award and the NAACP Academic Award.  In 1971 he graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Illinois earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics.  He later continued his education at Lincoln Land Community College, undertaking a two year study in Accounting.

His professional experience includes 7 years at First National Bank, as a Personal Banking Officer and Bank Branch Manager.  For 24 years, he was an Insurance Representative for the Prudential Insurance Company, retiring in 2002.  Later, he served as a substitute teacher for Springfield School District #186, for 8 years retiring again in 2011.

Pastor Day was saved at age 14 and in 1965 he received the call to the Gospel Ministry at the age of 16.  He was ordained an Elder in the Church of God in Christ in July 1977, under Southern Illinois late Bishop E. Lenox of Chicago Il.  For 20 years he served as Assistant Pastor to the late Pastor Claude Farlow at Brown Street COGIC. 

In December of 2000, Pastor Day was appointed Pastor of Brown Street COGIC by the late Bishop W.F. Newbon.  For 23 years (1983-2006) he served as Jurisdictional Secretary for the Central Illinois Jurisdiction.  Pastor Day has held several positions in his local church:  Sunday School Men's Class teacher, and choir president and organist for 25 years. 

Pastor Wilbur married First Lady Florence Day on March 25th, 1995, and together they have a blended family of 2 sons, 3 daughters, and 6 grandchildren.
